PANCHA NARI TURAGA & NAVANARI KUNJARA

 PANCHAVARNEESHWARAR TEMPLE - URAIYUR - TAMILNADU.

A very odd & unique representation of an Elephant & a Horse, with female figurines. Is it the sculpturer's imagination or does it have some significance.


These elements are mentioned in texts Called Vajikarana. These are Navanari Kunjara and Pancha Nari Turaga depicting elephant with 9 female & Horse with 5 female figurines.

  Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple - The Navel of Goddess Shakthi. Bhandasura the evil Asura was tormenting Indra and the devas. The devas prayed to Shakti in the form of a Parrot, residing on a Champaka Vriksha (Magnolia Champaka) at Kanchi. Hearing the plea of the devas, the goddess Kamakshi appeared from the Bila Dwara and destroyed the evil asura in this place. MALIIKARJUNESHWAR TEMPLE - SHIVA - THE GIVER OF PASHUPATHARTHA - DHARMAPURI

MALLIKARJUNESHWAR TEMPLE - KOTTAI KOVIL - DHARMAPURI - TAMILNADU Vishnu, Mahadev and Brahma on a panel. Arjuna did penance to Lord Shiva,for acquiring heavenly weapons including the Pasupathartha, for fighting the Kurukshetra war. Lord  Shiva wanted to test the resolve of Arjuna and hence took the roopam of a Kirata - Hunter warrior with his horses and Parvathi reached the place where Arjuna was in meditation.
