SHAKTHI is SHIVA – ARDHANARISHWARA

MAHADEV as ARDHANAREESHWARA. Half SHIVA & half PARVATHI.

The word ARDHANARISHWARA means half woman LORD, or half man – half woman representation of the LORD.  LORD SHIVA representing both himself and GODDESS PARVATHI In a single human form, thereby signifying that man and woman are equal and life in itself has no meaning without Prakriti and Purusha.

ARDHANAREESWHWARA the representation of equality male and feamale. SHIVA is half SHAKTHI & SHAKTHI is half SHIVA.

Without SHAKTHI there is no SHIVA.

The Panel literally shows SHIVA in two halfs split in the middle, the right side being SHIVA the MAN and the LEFT side being PARVATHI the WOMAN.

Rishi BHRINGI was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He came to KAILASH and was going around SHIVA. PARVATHI asked him to go around her also as they were two halves of the same truth. BHRINGI refused, so PARVATHI sat on the lap of SHIVA. BHRINGI took the form of a BHRING (Black Bee) and tried to slip in between the two.  Amused by this SHIVA made PARVATHI one half of his body and took the form of ARDHANAREESHWARA. PARVATHI cursed BHRINGI to lose the feminine contribution to the human body namely the flesh and blood. Since only the bones were left he was given a 3rd leg to be of support to him like a tripod.

Astounding carving of the Lord in masculine form with his fore hand resting on NANDI adorned with the Moon in his crown and a big Kundala(ear ring) on his ear, with a straight hip.

LORD SHIVA with a big KUNDALA in his ear and CHANDRA (MOON) on his crown, resting his hand on NANDI,being witnessed by BRAHMA on a lotus and INDRA on AIRAVATHA on the left of the frame.

The left portion is fully feminine of goddess PARVATHI. The decorated crown and an ornament dropping from the crown to her ear, with a beautiful ear drop up to her neck.  Goddess with a mirror on her left upper hand and the lower hand seems to be resting on her mace, with a bosom and curved hip. The decorative lines, holding her dress wear on her hip. The bottom portion again is totally lost to vandalism.
