PERIANDACHCHI TEMPLE -THE SLEEPING GODDESS - AMARAKUNTHI.

PERIANDACHCHI. THE SLEEPING GODDESS. AMARAKUNTHI.SALEM DISTRICT.TAMILNADU.

Dakshayani was roaming in the forest alone, Bramha seeing her alone lusted upon her. She ran to her husband Shiva, who cut of the fifth head of Bramha.
Seeing her husband's head cut off, Saraswathi cursed Shiva to roam around the cemetery forgetting about himself. She also cursed Parvathi to become huge and ugly and roam the earth.
Parvathi, (on seeing her husband's plight of roaming in the cemetery with a skull in his hand in total forgetfulness)was petrified and in pity went to her brother Mahavishnu and asked him to help them come out of this situation.
Lord Vishnu advised her to prepare the best food and make it into three balls and feed the skull with 2 balls and let the third ball rolling down and once the skull came out of the hands of Lord Shiva, he will gain consciousness.

Shiva came out of his stupor and after gaining consciousness went back to Kailasa to wait for Dakshayani's return.
This Aghora Rupam of Dakshayani is known as Angala Parameshwari or Periaandichchi. Goddess lies at the end of the village and protects the people from coming to harm.
